NC Weather Happens, LLC has been in the making for years. It was noticed early on that the Piedmont lacked a single destination for weather that could be used by everyone…from folks that just want to know the temperature, to emergency managers and meteorologists with more advanced needs. This site and the services we offer, fill that void.
We use NIST certified weather equipment and operate the Piedmont’s only Lightning Detection System. Much of that data is displayed on this site and is available 24/7/365. Davis Vantage Pro 2 sensors, send a constant stream of information to a Davis Weather Envoy which then streams that information to several weather networks and this page. Weather Display software compiles data to not only show current conditions, but also archives the data to display trends, record events, and other historical information.
NC Weather Happens, LLC contributes to the Citizen Weather Observer Program (CWOP) and the Meteorological Assimilation Data Ingest System (MADIS) where observations are used in the creation of short range weather models such as the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model. The weather models are then used by NOAA, academia, industry, and broadcast meteorologists. We are very pleased to be able to contribute in this way to the larger community.
Other tools in our arsenal include WeatherTAP and GRLevel2 RADARS, GREarth, GR2Analyst, model output from WeatherBell Analytics, HURREVAC, BUFKIT, Boltek Lightning Detection System, and participate in NOAA’s NWSChat program providing severe weather observations to area National Weather Service Offices.
